What is the Vampire Facelift?

April 25, 2018

The Vampire Facelift is a very specific aesthetic technique which utilizes a dermal filler (Juvederm, Restylane) along with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and blood derived growth factors to restore facial beauty and create a more youthful look. The procedure is gaining world-wide recognition and has become popular with A-list celebrities.

With Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), a person’s own blood is used to heal and regenerate cellular tissues and restore collagen. PRP harnesses the healing power of platelets, blood components that initiate and regulate tissue repair, along with growth factors from the blood to stimulate stem cells. Stem cells can help stimulate new collagen and blood vessels, repair skin damage, and help slow the signs of aging.

PRP has long been used in orthopedics, dentistry and reconstructive surgery. More recently, doctors have discovered the healing and regenerative properties of PRP as it applies to skin rejuvenation.

The Aging Face

As we age, we experience skin laxity and a loss of volume which contribute to the tell-tale signs of facial aging. A youthful face has a heart shaped appearance whereas the aging face becomes more triangular. Other signs of facial aging include:

  • Loss of volume in the cheeks
  • Changes in skin texture and tone
  • Lateral eye wrinkles, or crow’s feet
  • Frown lines / Marionette line
  • Lip lines and loss of lip volume
  • Deep depressions between the nose and mouth, nasolabial folds
  • Sagging around the jaw line and jowls

How is the Vampire Facelift procedure performed?

First, your blood is drawn. The blood cells are separated by a high-tech centrifuge that separates PRP from the whole blood.

While your blood is spinning, and after applying a high-potency numbing cream, a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler (like Restylane or Juvederm) is injected in a very specific way to create a more beautiful shape. Then, the PRP is activated and injected into very specific areas of the face.

What results are commonly experienced?

Like all cosmetic procedures, results are variable from person to person. In general, improvements can last 12 to 18 months. Like most non-invasive cosmetic treatments, additional treatments may be desired. After the initial desired result, touch-up treatments can be done once or twice every year. Noticeable results will be seen around the three-month mark and will continue as new collagen production continues. Typical results include:

  • The multiplication and the enlargement of fat cells that lie just beneath the surface of the skin. This soft pad of fat causes a smoothing and roundness that helps you look younger and healthier.
  • Improvement of saggy skin, reduction of fine lines, eye hollows, and acne scarring.
  • Improvement of fine wrinkling under the eyes.

Who is the optimal candidate for the PRP Vampire Facelift??

Since PRP is a completely natural treatment, there’s no risk of allergy or rejection. It can be done on all skin types. The treatment is ideal for individuals looking for gradual but noticeable improvement in skin texture, tone, volume and color. It gives you a fresher and healthier appearance without looking frozen or over-plumped, without aggressive surgery, chemicals or toxins.

PRP therapy is very promising in facial restoration. Results are optimal when patients receive a combination of PRP with micro-needling, chemical peels, dermal fillers and Botox / Dysport to accelerate and sustain the benefits of PRP.
